Pink Stripe

Description

Large Earthenware clay dish, colored in a deep burgundy with contrasting pink textured stripes.

I rolled out the clay and decorated it using engobe slips and ripped paper. I used the ripped paper as a resist on the different layers and colours to create a free-flowing striped pattern, with contrasting colour, depth, and tone. Once the decoration was finished and touch dry, I scrunched up a piece of paper, smoothed it out and then carefully pressed it onto the surface. (This created a fine crackle texture when peeled off.) This was then flipped and pressed onto my hump mould. For the outside I painted on a couple of layers of Ice Blue and then pressed detail and texture into the clay. I then brushed over a Copper Oxide wash to enhance the pattern. I left this side unglazed and the inside I glazed
