Description
Handmade using white earthenware clay and decorated using a combination of coloured engobe slips (liquid clay that will fire and stick onto the body of the pot without the need of being covered with glaze) and oxides. Finished using a combination of an earthenware gloss glaze, (coloured or transparent) and unglazed areas which are sometimes waxed. I rolled out a sheet of clay and pressed it into a plaster press mould and then built upwards and outwards using coils (sausages) of clay. I used yellow, orange, and red engobe slips, brushed on and blended. The rim of the pot is textured and painted pink. To highlight the texture, I painted over an Iron Oxide wash. The interior is gazed using a honey gloss glaze. My inspiration came from the natural beauty of a sunset spilling over the rolling hills of the Cotswolds.
