Hummingbird Dish

Description

Handmade using white or terracotta earthenware clay, decorated with coloured engobe slips and oxides and finished using a glossy glaze. For purely decorative pieces areas may be left unglazed and finished with a wax. I work in small batches mixing the colours as I go, therefore sets may vary slightly.

I rolled out a slab of clay, sketched out my design and cut out the shape. Before i placed it on my plaster hump mould i painted on my design. Once touch dry i popped it on the mould and made the foot ring and carved out the leaf design.

My inspiration came from the vibrancy and colourful coat of the humming bird. I wanted a jungle feel to the design.
